## 1. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie (April 1, 2026) — The Biggest Film of the Year So Far?

Let’s be real: this is the one everyone is talking about. The sequel to 2023’s massively successful *The Super Mario Bros. Movie* arrives on **April 1, 2026** — and no, that’s not an April Fool’s joke.

Directed by **Aaron Horvath** and **Michael Jelenic** and produced by **Illumination** in partnership with **Nintendo**, the film takes Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, and Toad into outer space for their most ambitious adventure yet. The delightful twist? They pick up a new friend along the way — none other than **Yoshi**, voiced by **Donald Glover**, whose charisma alone is enough to light up any galaxy. New additions **Brie Larson** voices Rosalina and **Benny Safdie** brings Bowser Jr. to life, while the returning ensemble of **Chris Pratt**, **Anya Taylor-Joy**, **Charlie Day**, **Jack Black**, and **Keegan-Michael Key** all reprise their beloved roles.

The story follows the gang as they battle Bowser Jr.’s plan to avenge his father and restore the Bowser name — taking the fight from the Mushroom Kingdom all the way across the cosmos. Early box office tracking puts the 5-day Easter opening north of **$160 million domestically**, with some analysts suggesting it could even eclipse the original. Families, this is your film of the year — don’t miss it.

**Runtime:** 1h 38m | **Rating:** PG | **Formats:** RealD 3D & IMAX

## 2. The Drama (April 3, 2026) — A24’s Most Irresistible Romance in Years

If the name **A24** immediately gets your attention, you’re not alone. The studio behind *Hereditary*, *Midsommar*, and *Everything Everywhere All at Once* is back — this time with something far more romantic, but no less unsettling.

**The Drama** stars **Zendaya** and **Robert Pattinson** as Emma and Charlie, a newly engaged couple whose blissful wedding week implodes when one of them reveals a devastating secret. Directed by Norwegian filmmaker **Kristoffer Borgli** (*Dream Scenario*) and produced by none other than **Ari Aster**, the film carries that signature blend of dark comedy and squirming emotional discomfort that only A24 seems to pull off with such precision.

The marketing alone has been genius — A24 placed a fake engagement announcement in *The Boston Globe*, and the resulting fan confusion (many genuinely thought Zendaya and Pattinson were a real couple) perfectly captured the film’s off-kilter charm. The supporting cast includes **Alana Haim**, **Mamoudou Athie**, and **Hailey Gates**.

Tracking suggests an opening around **$15 million** — impressive for an original, non-IP romance. This is one for date nights, or for anyone who enjoys watching love get wonderfully complicated.

**Release:** April 3, 2026 | **Studio:** A24 | **Director:** Kristoffer Borgli

## 3. They Will Kill You (March 27, 2026, ongoing) — The Most Unhinged Horror-Comedy in Town

Already in theatres and building a devoted cult following, **They Will Kill You** opened on **March 27, 2026** and is very much worth catching this week if you haven’t already.

**Zazie Beetz** plays Asia Reaves, an ex-convict who takes a housekeeping job at The Virgil — an elite New York City high-rise that turns out to be the front for a **literal Satanic cult**. What begins as a job-from-hell quickly becomes a blood-soaked survival mission as Asia fights through immortal masked tenants to rescue her sister Maria (played by **Myha’la**). **Patricia Arquette** is terrifying as Lilith, the cult leader, while **Tom Felton** and **Heather Graham** bring dark comedic energy as deranged cult members.

Directed by Russian filmmaker **Kirill Sokolov**, the film premiered at SXSW to buzzy reviews, with critics praising Beetz’s fierce, committed performance even as they noted the film’s enjoyably thin plotting. Rotten Tomatoes currently sits at **66%** — divisive but never boring. It’s an R-rated horror-comedy that knows exactly what it is and delivers it with glee.

**Rating:** R | **Runtime:** 1h 34m | **Studio:** Warner Bros.
