HiSilicon seems to be getting its supplies from Qualcomm and MediaTek after losing TSMC

, The US government last year took some steps to keep Huawei’s subsidiary HiSilicon out of the semiconductor chip market. However, in July 2021, TSMC was also banned from supplying semiconductors to HiSilicon. The ban proved to be of tremendous loss to TSMC as the company accounted for about 15% of total sales and was the second-largest customer after Apple for TSMC.

According to sources, Qualcomm had a 40% share of sales in the application processor (AP) market for smartphones in the first quarter of 2021, followed by MediaTek at 26% and Apple at 20%.

“The global smartphone AP market in the first quarter of 2021 was changed by the trade war. Both Qualcomm and MediaTek are HiSilicon’s smartphone AP markets due to trade restrictions. It can be said that he made the most of the benefits of being forcibly expelled from.”

Reports have indicated that the global smartphone AP market in the first quarter of 2021 grew 21% year-on-year to reach US $ 6.8 billion. With the introduction of entry-level 5G-enabled APs like Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 480 and MediaTek’s Density 700, the prices of 5G-enabled smartphones will fall by the end of 2021.

“We expect growth to continue throughout 2021, as more 5G-enabled APs and post-pandemic demand are expected to continue.”

Despite facing severe issues due to the US-china trade war, Huawei is determined to maintain its position as a major player in the semiconductor and cutting-edge electronics market. Even after losing its place in the 5G market, the Chinese tech giant is determined to make a comeback.

“We have no intention of rebuilding the business of HiSilicon, a subsidiary of semiconductor chip design,” stated the company officials.
