## The Big Behind-the-Scenes Change

Here’s where things get interesting. Original showrunner Todd Harthan is departing to lead Disney+’s live-action Eragon adaptation, and ABC is actively searching for his replacement. [Art Threat](https://artthreat.net/17825-32803-high-potential-renewed-for-season-3-with-new-showrunner-after-season-2-finale/) A new creative vision could take the show in an entirely fresh direction — exciting or risky, depending on who you ask.

## Who’s Returning for Season 3?

Kaitlin Olson, Daniel Sunjata, Judy Reyes, Javicia Leslie, and Deniz Akdeniz are all expected to return. However, Steve Howey, who joined as Captain Nick Wagner in Season 2, is reportedly exiting as a series regular after joining on a one-year deal — though he could return as a guest star to wrap up his character arc. ## What Will Season 3 Be About?

Roman’s disappearance mystery will continue to unravel in Season 3, and Morgan and Karadec’s slow-burn romance will also likely develop further — the sophomore season made it increasingly obvious that the pair are being set up for something bigger. [Kaitlin Olson](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaitlin_Olson), best known for *It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia*, has transformed into one of network TV’s biggest dramatic leads with this role — and Season 3 promises to push her character even further.
