The Hero Super Cup is an Indian football knockout tournament that sees participation from clubs belonging to the Indian Super League and the I-League. The tournament was introduced by AIFF in 2018, and Bengaluru FC were crowned champions in the first edition. The 2019 edition was won by FC Goa, who remain the titleholders as the 2020 and 2021 editions were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the tournament has now made a comeback in 2023.
There are a total of 16 teams participating in this tournament, with 11 coming from the Indian Super League (ISL) and the remaining 5 from the I-League. The 11 teams from the ISL and the 2022-23 I-League champions, RoundGlass Punjab, automatically qualified for the group stage.
The teams ranked second to tenth in the 2022-23 I-League contested in the qualifying rounds for the remaining four spots, with the matches being played in single-leg ties. These 16 teams are now split into four groups, and the top team from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
