Dominik Szoboszlai recently made the switch from RB Salzburg to their sister club in the German Bundesliga, RB Leipzig. However, as revealed by Fabrizio Romano and Francesco Porzio in their “Here We Go” podcast on Patreon, Arsenal were the closest to signing the player and were the frontrunners in the deal, making regular contact with his agent.
The deal, as is now clear, did not go through. One of the main reasons behind Szoboszlai choosing Leipzig over Arsenal was the presence of Julian Naagelsmann at the German club. The other prominent factor in him making the decision was Champions League football that Leipzig had regular access to.
Arsenal, on the other hand, look doubtful to even finish in a Europa League spot this season. Their performances have been below par, and the club is in dire need of a creative midfielder.
With so many expectations and so much tumult at the Emirates Stadium, Szoboszlai obviously chose the club that offered him the best football and the best environment for growth.
Fabrizio Romano maintained that the Hungarian youngster was respectful towards Arsenal and did not snub their advances. All that said, it is clear to see why the midfielder chose to compete in the Bundesliga for the next 4.5 years over the Premier League.
