The referees you’ll see at UEFA Euro 2024 are some of the best across the continent. And if you’re wondering how much they get paid, the quick answer is – significantly more than domestic leagues.
Match officials are paid on a per-game basis, with on-field referees being paid the highest of all the refs involved in a game.
Here’s how much referees earn at Euro 2024
Referees at the Euro 2024 group stage are paid much less, with on-field officials earning €5,000 per game, while linesmen are paid €2,500 per game. VAR officials are paid €3,000 per game. Fourth officials are paid the same as linesmen, at a rate of €2,500.
During the knockout stages, the pay increases significantly, with on-field referees earning €10,000 per game, much higher than the €1,750 per game they earn in the Premier League, the most financially strong league on the planet.
As you might have guessed, linesmen are paid better in the knockout stages as well, with their remuneration rising to €5,000 for the business end of the tournament.
