## The Story — And the Twist That Changes Everything

Pavane revolves around three people from different walks of life who drift into the same department store, each with their own secret pain. [Disney](https://movies.disney.com/toy-story-5) Mi-jeong is a quiet basement worker judged relentlessly for her appearance. Gyeong-rok, a young man who has traded his dream in for routine, begins to feel drawn to Mi-jeong after meeting her unexpectedly. And Yo-han — a free-spirited man working in the store’s parking lot — becomes the unlikely catalyst who pushes them together while narrating the whole thing from the outside.

Gyeong-rok openly confesses his feelings to Mi-jeong twice, and she eventually returns them, leading to a brief but heartfelt romance. He holds her hand gently without underlying intentions, brings her out from the dark to see a rainbow during the workday — acts of quiet love that build a connection over music and shared vulnerability. It’s tender, unhurried, and completely earned.

Then comes the gut-punch. After Gyeong-rok dashes off the bus to confess once more and they finally kiss in the snow, promising to meet again on New Year’s Eve — that same night, the bus he boards home crashes in the blizzard, and Gyeong-rok dies. [Disney](https://movies.disney.com/toy-story-5) Mi-jeong, who does not own a mobile phone, is never informed of the tragedy. She waits at the spot on New Year’s Eve, convinced he simply chose not to show up. [Disney](https://movies.disney.com/toy-story-5)

## The Ending — Two Realities, One Meaning

In reality, Mi-jeong and Gyeong-rok do not end up together. But Yo-han writes a novel about them — one where Gyeong-rok survives the accident and loses his memory, slowly recovering it through music, specifically the classical piece Mi-jeong loves. In this alternate reality, they do travel together and see the northern lights. [Disney](https://movies.disney.com/toy-story-5) It’s the happy ending reality refused them.

Five years later, Mi-jeong has rebuilt herself into a music teacher, walking taller, carrying his memory as strength rather than grief. [Disney](https://movies.disney.com/toy-story-5) The film’s title is borrowed from Maurice Ravel’s [*Pavane pour une infante défunte*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pavane_pour_une_infante_d%C3%A9funte) — a slow, nostalgic court dance evoking something beautiful that no longer exists. The title was always a warning.

## **FAQ**

### **Q: Do Gyeong-rok and Mi-jeong end up together in *Pavane*?**

No — Gyeong-rok dies in a bus crash on the night they finally get together [Disney](https://movies.disney.com/toy-story-5), though Yo-han’s novel gives them the happy ending reality denied, where Gyeong-rok survives and they eventually reunite through music.

### **Q: Is *Pavane* worth watching on Netflix?**

Despite its slow pacing and underdeveloped romance, *Pavane* is worth watching for its performances and chemistry [Variety](https://variety.com/2026/film/news/toy-story-5-trailer-buzz-woody-1236625360/) — particularly Go Ah-sung and Moon Sang-min, who bring genuine warmth and vulnerability to two quietly broken characters.
