Forget CGI space battles and cheesy alien worlds. HBO has dropped the first official trailer for *Lanterns* — and it trades flashy VFX-heavy spectacle for a gritty, grounded murder mystery set right here on Earth. [Lokmat Times](https://www.lokmattimes.com/entertainment/bigg-boss-marathi-6-twist-three-wild-card-contestants-set-to-enter-the-house-a510/) This is the Green Lantern reboot DC fans actually deserve.

## Two Lanterns. One Murder. Zero Room for Rookies.

*Lanterns* centres around veteran Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) and new recruit John Stewart (Aaron Pierre) as they investigate a mysterious murder deep in Nebraska — two intergalactic peacekeepers whose emerald rings allow them to create constructs of any shape or size, now stuck solving a very human crime. The trailer opens on a desolate highway where a frustrated John — two months into training and still yet to even wear the ring — is bluntly told by Jordan that he’s still “a f***ing substitute teacher.” Jordan then rolls right out of a moving car, sending it plunging off an embankment, forcing John to save himself on instinct. [Big Brother Wiki](https://bigbrother.fandom.com/wiki/Rakhi_Sawant) It’s the best possible way to establish their dynamic in 30 seconds.

James Gunn has always described *Lanterns* as a *True Detective*-type mystery — an ancient horror discovered on Earth, with these guys operating as supercops on “Precinct Earth.” [Filmibeat](https://www.filmibeat.com/television/news/2026/bigg-boss-marathi-6-wildcard-contestant-sanket-pathak-sweetens-his-bigg-boss-entry-with-homemade-la-505043.html) The trailer delivers exactly that energy.

## Star-Studded Cast & A Legacy to Redeem

The supporting cast includes Kelly Macdonald as a small-town sheriff, Ulrich Thomsen as the rogue ex-Lantern Sinestro, Laura Linney, Paula Patton, and Nathan Fillion returning as Guy Gardner from *Superman*. [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bigg_Boss_Marathi)

The [Green Lantern Corps](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Lantern_Corps) — an interstellar police force powered by willpower itself — has one of the richest mythologies in DC Comics, and this show looks set to finally do it justice on screen. This will most definitely be nothing like the 2011 Ryan Reynolds *Green Lantern* film, widely considered one of the worst superhero movies ever made.
