Manchester City defeated Arsenal 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium to take a huge step towards retaining the Premier League title. Kevin De Bruyne scored a double, making it eight goals against the North London side. On the other hand, Erling Haaland broke the record for the most goals in a 38-goal Premier League season by scoring his 33rd of the campaign with almost the last kick of the ball.
John Stones got on the scoresheet as well, heading past Aaron Ramsdale after running unmarked from a free-kick. The visitors were able to get one back thanks to Rob Holding’s impressive strike from the edge of the box. But, it was too little, too late to make a difference.
Have Manchester City won the title after their win against Arsenal?
Fulham, Brentford and Brighton are the only top half teams that City will face in their last seven games. On the other hand, Arsenal have a game against Newcastle United, Brighton, Chelsea and Nottingham Forest in their last four.
The three draws leading up to the game against Manchester City really dampened their chances of winning the title. And with two more games to play, the defending champions might have just put one hand on the trophy again.
The injury to William Saliba might have played a part in the defeat. But, Arteta’s side have really looked like they are struggling under pressure in recent weeks. And last night, we might have just seen the breaking point for his young squad.
