Harry Maguire was given a suspended prison sentence following a brawl in Greece earlier this week. He was also removed from the England squad for the friendlies against Denmark and Iceland.

Maguire was found guilty of several issues like repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against police, and insult after the arrest.

He was given a verdict of 21 months suspension and 10 days prison on Tuesday. The next day his legal team has lodged an appeal against the verdict as Maguire was so disappointed to hear the verdict.

Yesterday he spoke to BBC Sport about the incident. The Manchester United captain has told something which has shaken all the fans.

Maguire says that the police officer threw him and his partners from the minibus in Mykonos. That police officer also beat him in his leg and threatened him, “Your football career is over.”

Maguire said, “I don’t feel I owe an apology to anybody. An apology is something when you have done something wrong.”

“I don’t wish it on anybody. Obviously the situation has made it difficult for one of the biggest clubs in the world, so I regret putting the fans and the club through this, but I did nothing wrong.”

“I found myself in a situation where it could have happened to anybody and anywhere.”

He further added: “They hit me a lot on the legs. It wasn’t on my mind. I was in that much of a panic, fear, scared for my life.”

Maguire joined Manchester United last summer and became the captain of the club in January after Ashley Young left the club for Inter. Some sources claimed that he can lose his captaincy for this incident.

When he was asked about this matter he said that “It is such a huge honour to be captain of Manchester United – something I am really proud of. It is a massive privilege to play for the club, never mind captain.”

“It is not my decision to make but the one thing I will say is how supportive the club has been from top to bottom. They have been great with me and I thank them for that.”.

Later Manchester United has confirmed that they will keep him as their captain for next season.

Maguire was also asked about his withdrawal from the England camp. He said, “I love playing for my country. Physically and mentally I am ready to play. I’m disappointed but of course, I understand.”
