Halo Infinite Set to Introduce Groundbreaking Third-Person Mode

It comes almost out of the blue, Halo Infinite will be receiving a new update. For the loyal few who still play Halo: The Master Chief Collection, 343 Industries announced some big news today — and it’s not what many fans were expecting. A third-person perspective has also been confirmed to be in development by 343 Industries themselves, revealed during a Forge panel at the Halo World Championship 2024.

The Upcoming Third-Person Mode in Halo Infinite

It should have a significant impact on Halo fans, as it will become the first game in the series to feature a third-person perspective, with all previous installments boasting exclusively first-person perspectives. During the panel, Senior Community Manager John “Unyshek” Junyszek and Colin Cove, a Senior Software Engineer at Skybox Labs, explained what the third-person mode entails.

At first, the third-person mode will be added to Firefight in a future update, but Cove said it might also find its way into PvP and handled with Forge. They explained that the mode will be supported all the way down to the mode level, and people with likely enjoy a first-person or third-person view at pretty much any time with simple Forge Controls.

However, whether or not this innovative third-person perspective will be kept exclusive only to multiplayer or extended into what has been always confirmed as a campaign remains to be seen. Halo Infinite has already received several mods in the past, some of which have been third-person views. As exciting as this news is for Halo Infinite fans, don’t expect past titles in the franchise to get similar treatment, even with remastered releases.

The original Halo games and Halo Infinite all have a wide selection of mods, thanks to a lively modding community that revolves around these series. Although there are mods that add a third-person perspective, the official one will streamline how you cycle between viewpoints. Still, if it is a campaign-aware mode that may in turn still restrict its availability to only mod-able content.

Launched in 2021, Halo Infinite has received numerous updates to keep the game engaging. Despite this, some fans have felt a lack of content, particularly in 2024. With the Halo World Championship currently underway, this would be an ideal time for 343 Industries and Xbox to announce further Halo content, and there may be more surprises to come throughout the championship weekend.
