Hakan Calhanoglu is set to cross the divide between Milan and is set to join city rivals Inter Milan tomorrow. The Turkey international himself confirmed that he will leave AC Milan for their rivals, saying “I’ve reached an agreement with Inter, yes. I’m flying to Milano tomorrow and then I’m gonna sign the contract”

Turkey’s Euro 2020 campaign ended yesterday following a third defeat in a row at the hands of Switzerland. Calhanoglu will sign the new contract until 2024 and is set to earn a wage worth €5 million per season, with €1 million in add-ons.

Calhanoglu spent four years with AC Milan, and will now leave for Inter as a free agent. The player did not reach an agreement with AC Milan regarding a contract extension despite numerous negotiations, and will join Gigio Donnarumma on the way out for free.

The 27-year-old scored 9 goals and provided 12 assists across all competitions for Milan in 2021, making 43 appearances. He has also earned 59 caps for the Turkish national team, scoring 13 teams for them.

Starting his career in Germany, his place of birth, Calhanoglu previously played for Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen before moving to Milan. He is one of the most creative attacking midfielders in Europe and is particularly skilled in taking set pieces.

The player will no doubt face backlash from the AC Milan fans, and will be a very valuable addition to the already talented midfield of Inter, consisting of Christian Eriksen, Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic.
