The moment the teaser of *Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai* dropped online, the internet went into overdrive. Varun Dhawan juggling two love interests in a chaotic rom-com? Classic David Dhawan. But fans quickly noticed something — it felt eerily similar to Govinda’s 2006 comedy *Sandwich*. The comparison spread fast, and the makers had no choice but to step in.

## What’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Actually About?

*Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai* stars Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde, and is directed by David Dhawan. It is set to release in cinemas on June 5, 2026. The film revolves around a hilarious double-trouble love triangle — very much in the signature David Dhawan style that gave us classics throughout the ’90s and 2000s.

## So, Is It a Remake of *Sandwich*?

Short answer — **No.** After rumors of it being a remake spread online, the makers issued a public notice clarifying that the film is an original story and screenplay and bears no resemblance to any other film. They added that the entire cast and crew have poured their hearts into making it, and are looking forward to welcoming audiences for a fun-filled family experience in June.

It’s easy to see why fans connected the dots. [Romantic comedies centered on double relationships](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_comedy_film) are a well-worn Bollywood trope, and David Dhawan himself has made dozens of them — so overlapping vibes are almost inevitable.

## Why This Film Has Fans Genuinely Excited

David Dhawan directing Varun Dhawan is always a crowd-pleaser formula.
