Hacks Season 5 is already pulling no punches, and Episode 2 — titled *“Number One Fan”* — delivers one of the most satisfying yet unsettling endings of the season so far.

The big question everyone had: *Did Deborah Vance actually land Madison Square Garden?*

**Yes — but the date she gets is September 11th.** That twist alone is enough to make your stomach drop and your jaw drop simultaneously.

## **The Fan Backlash Nobody Saw Coming**

When the MSG booker refuses the booking, citing Deborah’s years away from touring and weak social media presence, Deborah’s plan is to rally her passionate fanbase — the “Little Debbies” — into a grassroots pressure campaign. [FandomWire](https://fandomwire.com/hacks-season-4-episode-6-ending-explained-can-deborah-recover-after-the-msg-rejection/) Smart move on paper. Messy in execution.

At the Vegas fan convention, fans complain that Deborah has gone “too Hollywood” and lost touch with what they actually need from her. [Yahoo!](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/tv/articles/cant-possibly-think-hacks-season-020000053.html) It’s a brutal reality check for a woman who assumed loyalty was unconditional.

But the fans ultimately deliver. A beleaguered Amanda, drowning in sequins and packages from the Little Debbies, finally offers Deborah a date at Madison Square Garden — September 11th — which could lead to some truly terrible marketing ideas given Deborah’s history. ## **Deborah & Ava: The Friendship That Saves Everything**

In the suspenseful episode finale, Deborah surprises Ava with a lavish 30th birthday celebration filled with all her favourite things, and Jesse McCartney serenades Ava at the gathering, fulfilling her childhood desire. [PRIMETIMER](https://www.primetimer.com/features/hacks-season-5-episode-2-ending-explained-does-deborah-secure-the-madison-square-garden-gig) It’s warm, funny, and unexpectedly emotional.

The two women also address the lingering tension from Singapore — Deborah admitting she’s had few genuine friendships in adult life, viewing most relationships as transactional. Growth, people!
