“We wanted to add power and pace to our forward line and Gurkirat was someone we were keeping an eye on. He was a handful when he played against us in the Super Cup and his goalscoring record for the India U20’s speaks for itself,” Chennaiyin FC head coach Owen Coyle told the club’s official website.
The 20-year-old spent three years with the Islanders, where he made 49 appearances, scoring two goals and providing one assist. As Coyle mentioned, his record in the U20s has been brilliant, with eleven goals scored in just eight games.
Gurkirat Singh could prove to be a shrewd new signing, given how much experience he already has of first team football. The left winger will be joined by Mohammad Nawaz, who will also join Chennaiyin FC as the club’s new goalkeeper in the coming days.
