Leeds United are in the market for a new left-back soon, and Brazilian defender Guilherme Arana. The Premier League club have submitted an offer worth £15 million for the defender and want to sign him in the winter transfer window.
The player operates as an aggressive left-back in the Brazilian Serie A. He currently features for the reigning league champions Atletico Mineiro, and has provided seven assists and five goals in 48 games for them.
These returns suggest that he can deliver the much needed final ball from wide positions, and can be a very useful player under Marcelo Bielsa. This summer, he was a part of the Brazilian Olympics team and won the gold medal, playing every minute of the campaign.
How can Guilherme Arana help Leeds United?
Leeds United finished in ninth place after coming up from the Championship last year. But, they have failed to replicate the same form this season. Pascal Struijk and Junior Firpo have failed to provide the kind of quality needed for the team to stride ahead.
Firpo was signed this summer only to fill in for the left-back position. But, he has failed to adapt to the English league to help the team.
The arrival of Guilherme Arana could boost the attacking output for the Yorkshire club, and could help them finish higher this season. Currently, they are in sixteenth place on the back of three straight defeats.
Arana models his game on Roberto Carlos, and could become a big player if he follows the kind of dedication that a coach like Bielsa demands.
