Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez has approved Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez as the first new signing of the season for the club. A new midfielder has been on the transfer list for a long time, and the experienced Argentine is expected to be the solution.
The 31-year-old will be leaving Betis for free once his contract expires in the summer, making it a great option for Barcelona considering their limited spending power.

Last summer, Barcelona signed Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu to bolster their midfield. However, that hasn’t had the expected impact especially due to repetitive injuries in the first team.
Barcelona have agreed a two-year contract with Guido Rodriguez, which includes the option for another year. Now, all that remains is for the contract to be signed, which would confirm the first new signing of the summer for the Catalonian side.
Rodriguez was a part of the Argentina national team that won the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The midfielder made only one appearance in Qatar, but has earned 29 caps for the Albiceleste overall, also winning the Copa America 2021 title.
