Take-Two Interactive has given yet another hint that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released within the next 20 months. This piece of information about the company’s near-term ambitions was revealed during the company’s most recent earnings conference, which also saw Take-Two defend the price of the Red Dead Redemption Switch port. The next edition in the long-running series is expected to be released during Take-Two’s fiscal year 2025, which concludes in March 2025.
That rumored Grand Theft Auto 6 release date is based on multiple recent insider claims, as well as Take-Two’s financial estimates, which have consistently indicated that the firm expects a significant revenue increase over the upcoming fiscal year.
The publisher has recently confirmed that assumption as part of an earnings call on 8 August covering the first quarter of its fiscal year 2024, with CEO Strauss Zelnick asserting that the company has positioned itself for a “significant inflection point in fiscal 2025.” Extending on that point, the CEO stated that Take-Two expects “record levels of operating performance” in the fiscal year ending March 2025, which some industry observers see as a hint that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in this timeframe.
That’s not to say the game’s release date is etched in stone, not least because analysts misunderstood a Take-Two projection from early 2022 as an indication that GTA 6 will be available in March 2024. considering that the game has yet to be shown, and considering the publisher’s history of extending marketing campaigns, that prediction is exceedingly unlikely to come true.
However, presuming that Grand Theft Auto 6 would be released in Take-Two’s fiscal year 2025, this could imply that the game will be released at the end of 2024. Except for GTA 4, all 3D entries in the franchise have traditionally been published around October. That timeline also coincides with a recent leak from an established Rockstar insider who claimed that GTA 6 is aiming for a holiday 2024 release, noting that the game could still be delayed due to Rockstar’s struggles to retain developer talent as a result of the mandatory return-to-office policy that the company implemented following the initial onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
