A rumor claims that Google has delayed the release of its fully customized Tensor G5 CPU for Pixel devices until 2025.

Google’s Tensor G5 details

The Information claims that Google’s specifically developed Tensor G5 CPU, which will power the next Pixel devices, has been postponed. In 2021, Google introduced the Tensor chip, an internal semiconductor developed in conjunction with Samsung. Despite being marketed as being created by Google, the Exynos chipsets from Samsung are similar to them.

The first rumors claimed that the 2024 Pixel phones would include Google’s completely bespoke chipset, code-named “Redondo.” The chip, according to the report, won’t be able to enter mass production in 2024 because TSMC missed the dates for production. The “Redondo” chip will be used during testing, according to the story.

The 2025 expected release date for the “Laguna” Google CPU. The processor will probably be sold using the Tensor G5. The 3nm technology from TSMC will form the foundation of its production process. For reduced thickness and increased power efficiency, it will be built employing integrated fan-out technology.

There have been rumors that Google will select Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) as their processor of choice, rather than Samsung. According to the most recent report, TMSC will no longer produce Tensor chips until 2025.

Over the past two years, tensor chips reportedly had some cancellations. The company’s entirely custom-designed processor has been delayed, according to a former Google chip executive, because of issues with communication and task distribution between Google’s Tensor silicon experts in the US and India.

Google has been increasingly substituting its own intellectual property for Samsung components in areas like communications, music, image processing, and graphics processing with each new iteration of the Tensor chip. In order to design and produce the Tensor chip (perhaps referred to as the Tensor G4) for the upcoming year, Google will continue to collaborate with Samsung.
