Google Tensor G4 Chip to come with minor improvement over its predeccessor

Google is presently developing the Tensor G4 chip, which will be used in the next Pixel 9 series smartphones. These smartphones are scheduled to be released in 2024.

The Tensor G4 processor, codenamed Zuma Pro, is being developed by Google in collaboration with Samsung’s System LSI section. According to Android Authority, this CPU is based on Samsung’s Exynos 2400 and is predicted to perform somewhat better than its predecessor, the nine-core Tensor G3 chip.

The Tensor G3 chip, codenamed Zuma, is being created with input from Samsung’s unreleased Exynos 2300 chip.

The G3 chip is being tested on a “Ripcurrent” board during the development phase, while the G4 chip is being tested on a “Ripcurrent Pro” board. Google plans to release the Pixel 10 smartphone with the totally custom-designed Tensor G5 CPU in 2025. Moving the Tensor G5 chip production from Samsung to TSMC represents a substantial shift in the manufacturing process. This is Google’s bold step toward developing a unique processor for future gadgets.

According to previous reports, Google will introduce the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro smartphones, which will use the G3 CPU, on October 4, 2023. These phones will have enhanced designs and cameras.

Larger ISOCELL GN2 primary camera sensors will be included in both variants. The Pixel 8 Pro will also have a 64MP ultra-wide-angle camera, whilst the Pixel 8 will have a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera. According to reports, the Pixel 8 Pro would have a 48MP telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
