Google I/O predictably made the keynote all about AI developments and Gemini announcements and failed to discuss Android 15 updates or any future features. Based on this year’s event, it seems that the company has created a two-day keynote pattern: the first day is only information like core technology, and the second is a hardware and software show.

The Latest Android 15 Beta 2

The Android beta release was once a part of the keynote, with announcements following the completion of the primary presentation. However, the primary emphasis on AI has resulted in the postponement of the betas until the second half of the day. This year’s Google focus was on educating AI and what some are calling the announcement and standout for Android 15: Gemini Nano.

The Developer Preview for Android 15 began in February, and it has been making minor adjustments over time. In April, the latest update on the version, Android 15 Beta 1.2, was officially released for compatible Pixel devices. Now, Beta 2 is launched; the announcement of the new release is accompanied by significant changes and detailed feature highlights.

Before the beta announcement, some selected original manufacturers had confirmed their participation in the Developer Preview. Android partners will get installable smartphone builds from Android for the first time to test updating and their app firm’s apps’ compatibility. The Pixel devices that are currently set to receive Beta 2 and Android 15 later in the year are as follows:

  • Google Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and Pixel 6a
  • Google Pixel 7, Pixel 7 Pro, and Pixel 7a
  • Google Pixel Tablet
  • Google Pixel Fold
  • Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel 8a

While specifics of the new beta remain undisclosed, it is expected to cater to advanced users and app developers. Android 15 stable builds are slated for release in October for the Pixel lineup, with other smartphone manufacturers expected to follow suit in subsequent months.

Google appears to be reverting to its multi-day, in-person event format, reserving Android 15 updates for the second day instead of touching upon them briefly. The online session is now slated to commence on Thursday, expanding I/O into a three-day affair.
