The tech giant has a wide variety of apps in its plethora of Google applications, but it failed in one perspective during this lockdown period i.e. video conferencing. Here’s where Zoom made headlines and made it easier for people to host video conferences but due to its vulnerabilities, no one is using it for security purposes.
Even though Google had its own solution for video conferencing solution i.e. Hangouts app but it is splitting it to two new distinct platforms – Google Chat and Google Meet. This new Google Meet application, as the name implies, is the heir to all of the video-conferencing features.
Google Meet will be focussed more for professional purposes, so it released it to users with G Suite accounts or those having a subscription. However, Google has that its new application is now free for everyone with Google accounts i.e. all the Gmail users.
The key motive of Google Meet is obviously to host more people in a video conference without having to sacrifice your privacy. According to Google, with Google Meet you can securely connect, collaborate, and celebrate from anywhere.
With Google Meet, users can safely create and join high-quality video meetings with up to 250 people at once. Much like Zoom, you can host unlimited meetings, which remain encrypted in transit and proactive anti-abuse measures. You can even an add link to video conferences directly synced to Google Calendar invites.
To help you during your meeting, Google has some interesting features for you like sharing your screen to present documents, slides, and other things. Much like Zoom, with just share a link you can invite guests to join with one click from a desktop web browser or the Google Meet mobile app.
Another exciting feature is the real-time captions powered by Google speech-to-text technology which generates captions of what you are saying in real-time for easier understanding on the receiver’s end.
For companies who want to have some more advanced features, Google also offers an Essentials version including phone numbers, larger meetings, meeting recording and moderation controls, etc.
Go download the app from Play Store or website.
