# Google is gaining market in Japan while Apple seems to be lagging

Even while Google Pixel smartphones are still a minor participant in the global smartphone market, they are becoming more and more well-known, particularly in Japan. According to a recent Bloomberg study, which used data from Counterpoint Research, Google Pixel smartphones now account for 12% of the Japanese smartphone market, up from just 2% in Q2 2021.

## Apple’s iPhone market share decreased from 58% to 46% in the same time frame, while Google gained its footing.

Given that Apple’s iPhones have long dominated the Japanese smartphone market, this is a big move. However, it’s possible that the affordable prices, excellent camera performance, and extensive Google service integration of Pixel phones are helping them gain appeal in Japan.

The lower yen is another aspect that has helped Pixel succeed in Japan. Because of this, they represent a fantastic value for those looking to purchase a Pixel phone outside of Japan. Only a few nations sell the Pixel, and Japan is now the cheapest spot to buy one thanks to the yen’s decline to its lowest level in over three decades.

Google gains from the demise of other Android manufacturers in Japan. As an illustration, Sharp’s market share increased from 8% to 11%, and Sony’s increased from 5% to 6%. Oppo actually decreased from 6% to 5%, while Samsung maintained its line at 6%.

However, despite the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s $100 price rise brought on by the removal of a lower storage tier, Apple’s most recent iPhone 15 series may grow its market share. The newest Pixel gadgets from Google will be unveiled during an event on Wednesday.
