Google is known for many things but its search engine and the mobile operating system take the central stage. As the company launches its new pixel devices, it always makes some major updates to its stock applications. And we all know how amazing its Google camera is, heck even I use a port of Google camera app on my Android.

Since 2019, the users of Pixel devices have been enjoying the feature of Astrophotography, and according to the census, it is one of the favorites among Pixel users. The feature only managed to get better with every update.

But, things changed with the launch of the Pixel 5 and 4a 5G. both the devices were launched with an ultra-wide camera and it was exciting to see what it would be able to do in Astro mode. However, to the disappointment of many, the quality was lacking now, it seems that Google has disabled its use on the Ultra-wide lens.

In the latest version of Google Camera 8.1, users will be unable to engage in Astro mode unless using the main camera. Zooming out to the ultra-wide will show a “Zoom to 1x for astrophotography” banner at the top of the screen.

It’s understandable as to why Google has put this restriction, I mean the resulting images were so bad, that it would have ended up becoming a meme fest on the internet. Hopefully, Google acted swiftly. As to whether Google is working on improving the Astro mode is still not known, but hopefully the company will bring it back improved in the next version.
