Sporting CP have reached a total agreement with Goncalo Inacio for a contract renewal. The player was a target for Newcastle United in the January transfer window, but they failed to strike a deal with the Portuguese club for their player.

And now, Sporting have managed to convince their defender to extend his deal with the club. The 20-year-old currently has a contract that runs until 2025, and also has a €45 million release clause.

With the new deal, he will be extending his stay for another season, and will still have the release clause in his contract. The centre-back came through the Sporting CP academy, and has become a regular first team player for them.

With his boyhood club, he has won two league cups and the Liga Portugal last year. This season, he has made 33 appearances across all competitions for the first team and has played over 2800 minutes.

However, the talented young centre-back is yet to make his debut for the Portugal national team. But, he has earned two caps for the U21 team as of now.

Newcastle United were interested in signing Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and Sven Botman from Lille alongside Goncalo Inacio. However, none of the deals worked out and they had to turn to Brighton defender Dan Burn to bolster their defense.

While Botman continues to be a target for the Magpies, it is now unlikely that Inacio will be leaving the Portuguese champions with his new deal all set to be signed.
