Goncalo Guedes has signed on loan for Villarreal until the end of the season, after terminating his loan deal with Benfica earlier in the January transfer window. The winger’s parent club, Wolves, decided to not keep him for the second half of the season so that he could gain regular playing time.
Now, the former Valencia man is set for another spell in LaLiga to hopefully get his career back on track. Guedes has a contract until 2027 with Wolves, and it remains to be seen whether he will be able to secure a permanent move away from the Molineux in the summer transfer window after failing to seal his spot in the Premier League.
Goncalo Guedes signs for Villarreal on loan until June 2024Â
In the first half of the season, Guedes made 14 appearances across all competitions, registering two assists. But, very few of them came as a starter for his boyhood club, which added up to only 275 minutes.Â
He has already made his first appearance for the Yellow Submarine, coming on as a substitute in their game against Mallorca which ended in a 1-1 draw. And it now remains to be seen whether he can work his way regularly into the team.
After earning 32 caps for the Portugal national team, things have gone downhill for the winger especially after his Wolves transfer. And if he is to make it to the Euro 2024 squad, he will need to play regularly – something that might be possible if he can start regularly.
