Giovanni Lo Celso is being considered for a permanent transfer by Villarreal this summer.
He is currently on loan at the La Liga club from Tottenham Hotspur. There is no buy option included in the player’s contract, so the two clubs will have to come to an agreement if the move is to go through.
The two clubs have not yet started discussions regarding the move, but are expected to sit down to discuss their options. According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham are holding out for a €20 million transfer fee for the Argentinian.
Giovanni Lo Celso could join Villarreal permanently
Unai Emery is an admirer of the midfielder, who has been impressive during his time with the Yellow Submarine. He helped the team reach the semifinals of the Champions League against Liverpool despite coming up against odds-on favourites like Bayern Munich and Juventus.
The 26-year-old spent one season on loan at Tottenham from Real Betis before being signed permanently. But in over two-and-a-half seasons with the North London side, he hasn’t been able to earn a consistent place in the starting line-up.
And now, if he moves back to La Liga, he could be earning a more important role in the line-up under Unai Emery. Giovanni Lo Celso’s sale could facilitate the arrival of other important players for Antonio Conte’s Spurs this summer. They are set to have a prominent transfer window, with a £150 million investment, and could be handed an extra boost from the sale too.
