Gigabyte lists RTX 3080 and 3070 Ti and AMD Radeon RX 6500 XT GPUs with the Eurasian Economic Commission

This week, Gigabyte filed a list of new graphics card models with the EEC, confirming rumours of upgraded RTX 3080 and 3070 Ti models. It also includes AMD’s Radeon RX 6500 XT, which has yet to be announced.

In a filing with the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) on Tuesday, Gigabyte announced ten new custom RTX 3080 designs, seven new 3070Ti variants, and three RX 6500 GPUs. The 3080s all have 12 gigabytes of VRAM, whereas the current 3080s only have 10GB.

The memory on the 3070 Ti cards has been doubled from eight to sixteen gigabytes, while the 6500 XT is only listed with four gigabytes. The filing’s designations refer to Gigabyte’s well-known custom models, such as the Aorus, Eagle, and Vision.

Gigabyte would have to register with the EEC to sell the cards in countries like Russia, Belarus, and Armenia. As a result, it’ll likely be selling these cards in one or more of these regions soon.

In October, there were rumours of these Nvidia upgrades, as well as leaks of a 12GB RTX 2060. In a roundabout way, the company eventually confirmed the latter. The Nvidia cards’ release dates are not mentioned in the EEC filing. AMD is expected to unveil the 6500 XT at CES 2022 in January, according to analysts.

The Nvidia upgrades could be a refresh, similar to the RTX 20 Super lineup, or an attempt to alleviate the graphics card shortage or both. The unusual memory configurations — the 3070Ti has more VRAM than the 3080 — are most likely a result of Nvidia’s manufacturing constraints.
