Germany have won their first ever FIBA World Cup by defeating Serbia 83-77 in a fiercely contested final in Manila. Toronto Raptor Dennis Schroder inspired his team to the win, scoring 28 points on his own and also claiming the points to win the game for his side.
The Germans had to fight back from 23-26 to make it 47-47 at half time. The lead had changed hands over a dozen times halfway into the game. And we seemed certain to have an intense finish to the game, which saw Serbia fall short by the finest of margins.

The third quarter saw the eventual champions come out and play with brilliant intensity. They were able to establish an 11-point lead, and were 69-57 ahead by the time the buzzer sounded off.
Serbia’s Bogdan Bogdanovic put in a remarkable effort in the final quarter to help turn things around for his side. But, Germany weathered an intense last quarter to hold on to their lead and claim the title for the very first time.
Dennis Schroder was named the MVP of the tournament for scoring 28 points in the final, and putting in a remarkable comeback performance after his self assessed worst game as a basketball player.
Both teams have qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics, but the celebrations are going off in Germany right now, after becoming champions of the world.
