Germany have defeated the USA to move to the finals of the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The scoreline read 113-111 in favour of the Germans on Friday as they advanced to the finals unbeaten in the tournament with a 7-0 record.
They will be facing Serbia for the gold medal, while the United States will face rivals Canada for the bronze medal. We were guaranteed a new world champion after defending champions Spain were eliminated by Canada. But, they could not make it to the finals.
But, the USA risks missing out on a medal for the second consecutive time in two editions, which could be very disappointing for them.
Germany defeat USA to make it to FIBA World Cup final
“We knew the task at hand, and that was to go win,” said U.S. guard Austin Reaves. “And we didn’t do that.”
German players Andreas Obst, Daniel Theis and Dennis Schroder ripped through the USA, albeit winning by a fine margin. Obst scored 24 points, while Franz Wagner scored 22 and Theis scored 21.
Germany maintained the lead for most of the game, while the USA just could not find a way to get ahead. The team doesn’t include any players with Olympic experience or any all-NBA players for the first time in the Dream Team era.
