George R.R. Martin, the creator of Game of Thornes has now signed a new five-year contract with HBO, a deal which is said to be “mid-eight figures”. Hollywood Reporter reported that the deal aims Martin to commit to developing original programming for the streaming and network service.

It may happen that the bond cements the commitment of HBO to the critically acclaimed Game of Thrones universe, it’s not clear that the new deal is purely related to the A Song of Ice and Fire Fantasy series and its several spinoffs and prequels, or if involves some other projects too.

A few later the news came out that three Game of Thrones spinoffs were revealed to be in the works at HBO. Among those projects, one of its name has working title 9 Voyages and will follow Lord Corlys Velaryon, AKA The Sea Snake, head of House Velaryon, and Lord of the Tides.

Series number three is going to be set in Flea Bottom, a slum in the capital city of Westeros of King’s Landing where characters like Gendry Baratheon and Davos Seaworth were born. All these projects are still in the early development stage, meanwhile, the House of the Dragon is set to start filming soon.

Martin said in his blog, “I wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of The Winds of Winter in 2020. The best year I’ve had on [Winds of Winter] since I began it.”

“I need to keep rolling, though,” Martin admitted. “I still have hundreds of more pages to write to bring the novel to a satisfactory conclusion. That’s what 2021 is for, I hope. I will make no predictions on when I will finish.”
