Genshin Impact 2.4 update officially removes support for players receiving Battle Pass benefits

Players can no longer receive Battle Pass benefits on other platforms if the pass was purchased on PlayStation, according to users following Genshin Impact’s latest 2.4 update.

Genshin Impact allows cross-save between PlayStation and PC, and the feature included Battle Pass prizes before this update. As a result, even if their accounts were created on PlayStation, users on PC and mobile could earn Battle Pass benefits.

Those players will now have to claim their goodies on the PlayStation Network. Players will receive an error notice while attempting to claim Battle Pass benefits “The present platform is unable to collect. Please utilize the platform that you used to make your transaction.”

A video from the Genshin Impact instructions Twitter account @WorldofTeyvat walks you through the game’s Battle Pass and how to earn rewards. The user used to play Genshin Impact on PlayStation, but when the game’s cross-save capability was introduced, they switched to PC.

According to Fanbyte’s Imran Khan, this function is useless because Sony has already taken a share of the player’s money when they buy the Battle Pass through the PlayStation Network Store. This new update just adds extra hoops for gamers to jump through to redeem their goodies.

Khan also stated that redeeming rewards between a PC and a mobile device is still possible, indicating that this is a Sony issue.

During the PS4 generation, PlayStation has had an intriguing track record with cross-play. Because Sony is the market leader, any thought of cross-play with other platforms was nixed for its userbase to stay as long as possible within the PlayStation ecosystem. Sony didn’t have to modify its cross-play and cross-save regulations until Fortnite became a cultural phenomenon.

Genshin Impact also has a devoted following, but only time will tell if Sony or developer MiHoYo addresses this. Shenhe and Yunjin are two new characters in Genshin Impact’s latest update, as well as the new Enkanomiya map.
