Gedson Fernandes was originally expected to move to Galatasaray, but the deal collapsed. Now, the midfielder is set to join Besiktas in Turkey on a permanent deal.

He will be signed on a permanent deal until June 2025, and the transfer fee paid will be around €6 million for the €8 million-valued midfielder. Fernandes is set to arrive in the city tomorrow to complete his medicals and officially become a new player for Besiktas.

Gedson Fernandes to join Besiktas tomorrow

The Benfica academy graduate is most prominently known for his loan spell with Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League. He spent one year in England, and made 14 appearances for the Lilywhites, seven of which came in the Premier League.

After deal collapsed with Galarasaray now Gedson Fernandes is set to join Besiktas. Deal in place for €6m, contract until June 2025. Besiktas are now preparing contracts. 📑🦅 #Besiktas

He then returned to Benfica, and spent the latter half of the 20/21 season at Galatasaray. The Portuguese performed really well during his time on loan with them, and was in talks to return for an 18-month loan. However, the deal ultimately fell through.

But with the latest reports, it seems like he will be ending up in Turkey after all. Gedson Fernandes has made a couple of appearances for the Portuguese national team. He has shown his quality in midfield on several occasions, but has been unable to maintain consistency.

A renewed challenge in Turkey could help the 23-year-old get back to a top level in the upcoming years.
