Gears of War E-Day may be closer to release than expected, given how long it has been in development. According to an X post shared by VGT Gaming News, the senior-level designer at the game studio revealed on LinkedIn yesterday that the next installment in the hit franchise has been in development for five years and two months. That would indicate that the release might be on the way.

Only revealed last year during a summer showcase of Microsoft’s, Gears of War E-Day has been mostly hush-hush since. Though Microsoft has shared the updates on the game, they are fairly limited leaving fans looking for more details. But a job post, discovered soon after the announcement, suggested the game might one day come to PlayStation 5.

Though it was surprising at the time, Xbox leadership has since made statements like this one from Phil Spencer that no games at Xbox are barred from going multiplatform. This means that a PlayStation 5 release for Gears of War E-Day could be a possibility.

Currently, the game is reportedly confirmed for PC and Xbox Series X|S but has yet to be given a release date. Due to its protracted development cycle, speculation is rife that an official launch date could be announced in the near future. Microsoft has not yet confirmed if Gears of War E-Day will also be available to players on other platforms besides PC and Xbox.

The title is said to be a follow-up to the story from the last Gears of War home console entry, eventually revealing the story of the early days of the Locust invasion. While details remain scarce, fans are hopeful that Microsoft will provide more information soon, possibly during an upcoming Xbox event.
