When his £550,000-a-week Real Madrid contract expires this summer, Gareth Bale is allegedly in negotiations with MLS side DC United about joining them on a free transfer. The Welshman will stay at Real until the end of his contract, bringing an end to a tumultuous nine-year stay at the Bernabeu.

Gareth Bale and DC United

Gareth Bale is evaluating his choices, given how he would like to represent his country at another major tournament, with this year’s winter World Cup in Qatar just over six months away. As per the Washington Post, DC United is considering offering him an opportunity to play in the United States before the international extravaganza in Qatar this winter.

According to the source, the MLS club is in talks with Bale’s agents about signing him on a free transfer in the summer, with both sides ‘exchanging ideas.’ DC United is also said to be willing to offer Bale — a four-time Champions League winner – a better deal than Wayne Rooney had when he played at the club in 2018.

Bale and Real Madrid

According to Steven Goff of the Washington Post, it is “unclear” whether the purchase will move forward. Bale, who has appeared in over 250 games for Real Madrid and won 14 championships during his time there, has been linked with a return to Tottenham, with Cardiff also expressing interest.

After becoming the most successful British player overseas, Gareth Bale’s time at Real Madrid appears to be coming to an end with only seven appearances in all competitions this season.

Bale has also barely won over Real Madrid fans, who mocked and taunted him when he made his first professional debut at the Santiago Bernabeu in over two years over the weekend when he came off the substitute in a 2-0 win against Getafe.
