As anticipation builds in the smart tracker market for Google’s impending entry on the Android side, Samsung has taken the spotlight today by unveiling the Galaxy SmartTag 2, accompanied by an enticing $30 price tag.
The Upcoming Galaxy SmartTag 2
The original Galaxy SmartTag made its debut with two variations, providing users with the ability to track their belongings in a manner reminiscent of Apple’s AirTag. Utilizing a combination of Bluetooth and UWB (Ultra-Wideband) technology, or a blend of both, users could effortlessly locate their items. This functionality was made possible by leveraging a network of Galaxy smartphones and tablets within proximity.
With the release of its successor, Samsung has opted for a streamlined approach, offering just a single variant that supports both Bluetooth and UWB technology. Alongside this change comes a significant design overhaul. The new look features an integrated loop, making it convenient to attach the device to keychains, bags, and various other items. This revamped design also accommodates a larger battery, boasting an impressive lifespan of up to 700 days on a single charge.
In terms of durability, the Galaxy SmartTag 2 has earned an IP67 rating, signifying its resistance to water and dust. Furthermore, it supports Bluetooth Low Energy with a generous maximum range of 120 meters.
However, it’s important to note that the SmartTag 2 remains exclusively compatible with Samsung smartphones. While the eagerly awaited Google Find My Device Network has yet to go live, due to Google allowing Apple to take the lead in this regard, many had hoped to see Samsung’s exceptional hardware integrated with a network that extends its capabilities to all Android phones. The Galaxy SmartTag 2 is scheduled for release on October 10 and will be available in both black and white color options, retailing at a competitive price of $29.99.
