Samsung officially introduced the Galaxy S24 series at an event in California on Wednesday, showcasing its latest artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities driven by Galaxy AI technology. Notably, the company disclosed in a footnote on the web pages dedicated to the new Samsung Galaxy S24 series that these AI features would only be accessible on compatible Samsung Galaxy devices for a limited two-year duration. The company is also extending Galaxy AI features to certain older devices.

All About the Samsung Galaxy S24 Series AI Features

Specifically highlighted on the pages for the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy S24, and Galaxy S24+, are the innovative AI features embedded in these models. However, a footnote at the bottom of the pages explicitly states that “Galaxy AI features will be provided for free until the end of 2025 on supported Samsung Galaxy devices. Different terms may apply for AI features provided by third parties.”

According to information on Samsung’s website, users can enjoy these features at no cost until the conclusion of 2025. Yet, the company has not clarified whether customers will be required to pay for continued access to these features beyond the initial two-year period.

This strategy aligns with a common industry trend where companies introduce software features on new smartphone models at no extra charge for a limited time. For instance, Apple incorporated the iPhone 14 series with a complimentary Emergency SOS via Satellite feature available until November 2025. This approach often serves to ensure the sustainability of services that may later transition to a subscription-based model.

The ambiguity in Samsung’s footnote leaves questions regarding whether all AI-powered functionalities in the Phone, Messages, Gallery, and Notes apps will eventually be subject to a subscription fee. It remains uncertain whether the charges will be limited to third-party AI features, such as Circle to Search, developed in collaboration with Google. More details on the pricing structure for these AI-powered features are anticipated from Samsung in the future.
