Galaxy S22 tipped to feature the smallest screen since the Galaxy S9 with 3,700 mAh battery

The Galaxy S22 series is right around the corner and should come with some notable upgrades, but recent rumors have pointed to the battery being fairly small. As it turns out, that might not be a big deal as another leak is pointing to a much smaller screen on the base-model Galaxy S22.

Ice Universe claims on Twitter that the Galaxy S22 will arrive next year with a considerably smaller screen. Apparently, the base model will ship with a 6.06-inch display, a step down from the smallest Galaxy S21 and the smallest display on Samsung’s base flagship since the Galaxy S9, not counting the special exception S10e. Ice says that the phone will be similar in dimensions to the iPhone 12/13.

There are no details on why Samsung may go for a smaller display and battery. The change in specifications, if true, may be guided by the need to reduce cost or users preference. It’s unclear at the moment how this might affect other models like the S22+ or S22 Ultra, but the smaller size could potentially widen the gap between the standard and Plus models, which have mainly only differed in size in recent years.

The Galaxy S22 Ultra model is rumoured to pack a 5,000 mAh battery followed by S22+ that’s likely to have a 4,500 mAh battery. Due to the smaller size, the base S22 is expected to get a 3,700 mAh battery.

The leaks also suggest that the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra and S22+ will feature 45W charging and S22 will get 25W charging support. Under the hood, the Galaxy S22 series is likely to pack a powerful Exynos 2200 chipset. In the S22 Ultra, the chipset is expected to be paired with an AMD GPU clocked at 120MHz frequency.
