18-year-old winger Gabriel Carvalho signs for Atletico Madrid from Porto

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Gabriel Carvalho from Porto. The player has signed with the Rojiblancos as a free agent, after leaving his former club Porto.

He initially started out in the Sporting academy, but later joined their rivals Porto in 2020. After spending one-and-a-half years with them, he has now made the move to Spain from Portugal.

The transfer has been made official, and he has been presented as a new player for the capital club as well.

The young winger will be mentored under Fernando Torres together with Ricardo Ortega. The right-footed teenager mainly plays as a right-winger but has the versatility to operate in any attacking position.

Gabriel Carvalho has signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Atletico Madrid. He has a release clause worth €40 million, which shows how highly the Colchoneros value their signing.

He is not expected to feature in the first team right away and will be a part of their Under 19 squad for the time being. However, his arrival shows that Atletico are still thinking long-term despite their poor run of form in the league.

There have been talks of Diego Simeone being sacked after a disappointing run of results. Atletico Madrid are in a race for Champions League spots right now, after failing to recreate their form from the previous season.
