The FWA Footballer of the Year awards have been revealed for 2023, with Erling Haaland and Sam Kerr winning in the men’s and women’s categories this year. The pair will be presented with their awards on May 25, at the 75th anniversary edition of the awards.
Both of the winners have set records, and have won by a significant margin this year.
FWA Footballer of the Year Awards 2023: Winners revealed
Erling Haaland has been breaking records ever since the start of the Premier League season. Right now, he holds the record for the most goals in a single season of the English top flight, as well as across all competitions. The Norwegian has won 72% of votes, which is the biggest margin of victory since the inception of the Premier League.
With 51 goals across all competitions, Haaland has been phenomenal and has a chance to guide Manchester City to a treble. But, while there is still a lot of work to be done, it is well within their reach.
Chelsea’s Sam Kerr has become the first female player to win the FWA Footballer of the Year award for the second consecutive time. The forward has won twice as many votes as Aston Villa’s Rachel Daly, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists across all competitions.
The award would be even more deserved if Chelsea can win either of the Women’s Super League or the FA Cup in the coming weeks, or perhaps even both.
