Every year, there is a wild transfer rumour about Frenkie De Jong that somehow gains traction. This time around, Bernardo Silva and De Jong are being linked with a swap deal which would see both players change clubs.

Silva has been linked with a move to Barcelona for years now, while last year, De Jong was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United. This time, their local rivals have been thrown into the rumour mill according to a report by Forbes.

Silva is also on the radar of PSG, but a formal offer has not arrived from the French club as of yet. The Portugal international has been highly influential under Pep Guardiola, swapping between a traditional winger’s role and that of a central midfielder with extreme fluidity. As a result, he will be a huge addition to any team he plays for.

At 28, the player is entering the peak of his footballing career, and has a contract with City until 2025. As a result, it is not necessary for the treble winners to part ways with the player this summer. The same can be said for Frenkie de Jong, with Barca president Joan Laporta confirming that the Dutchman is still vital to their plans.

The last major swap deal that went through in football involved Arthur Melo and Miralem Pjanic swapping clubs. And neither move worked out for any club. As a result, it seems quite unlikely that the swap deal rumoured will go through considering the rare occurence of the deal and the fact that the two players are vital to their respective projects.
