The 23/24 season will conclude in a little over a month, meaning free agents will be available in the market once again – players whose contracts have run out, and can sign with any club of their choosing. Some players, such as Piotr Zielinski and Mehdi Taremi have already found new clubs, with both joining Inter Milan.

Similarly, others have opened talks over a new deal but are yet to officially sign the contracts. In this article, we’ll be taking a look at all the players whose futures are still uncertain.

Free agent XI in football 2024

GK: Alex Meret (Napoli)

After leading Napoli to the Scudetto last season, Meret’s contract is set to run out this summer. The club is yet to begin talks with the goalkeeper over a new deal, raising the chances he will leave for free at the end of the season.

RB: Kenny Tete (Fulham)

Aged 28, the former Lyon and Ajax full-back is out of a contract in June, and could leave Fulham after spending four years with the Cottagers.

CB: Mario Hermoso (Atletico Madrid)

The central defender is among the most valuable free agents this summer. Atletico have no plans of extending his contract, and he is set to leave after spending five years with the Rojiblancos. Inter and Juventus have been linked with him, but no talks have taken place yet.

CB: Raphael Varane (Man Utd)

The former Real Madrid man’s spell at Manchester United has been plagued by injuries. And now, he could be on the move, with his contract set to end in a month’s time. United are not expected to try and renew his contract, leaving the door open for a new opportunity..

LB: Juan Miranda (Real Betis)

Miranda has been fairly regular for Real Betis this season, making 28 appearances across all competitions. However, Betis have not renewed his contract and could lose the 24-year-old on a free transfer this summer.

CM: Adrien Rabiot (Juventus)

The French midfielder has managed to turn things around with the Bianconeri after a difficult spell a few years ago. Now, he is one of the regulars in the starting line-up but could leave at the end of the season with no agreement on his contract yet.

CM: Guido Rodriguez (Real Betis)

The Argentina international with 29 appearances is set to leave Real Betis at the end of the season, alongside Juan Miranda. Rodriguez has played 26 games for Betis, but hasn’t been as involved with only 2041 total minutes.

CM: Thiago (Liverpool)

A lot was expected when Thiago joined Liverpool on a free transfer from Bayern Munich. Instead, he has become a forgotten man at Anfield, mainly due to repetitive injuries, and will leave the club at the end of the season when his deal runs out. He has made 98 appearances for the club, with none coming this year.

CAM: Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)

Borussia Dortmund have confirmed that Marco Reus will leave the club at the end of the season, marking an end to his 12-year spell in black and yellow. The German is yet to make a decision on his future, and his Dortmund exit truly marks the end of an era for the club.

ST: Antony Martial (Manchester United)

Manchester United have confirmed that Antony Martial will be leaving the club at the end of the season. The Frenchman has shown signs of his quality at times in Red, but hasn’t been able to deliver on the potential consistently. Now, he will embark on a new chapter next season.

Mbappe has confirmed that he will leave PSG at the end of the season, when his contract runs out. And even though Real Madrid lead the race to sign him, he hasn’t finalized the contract with them yet. Moreover, Madrid fans will be wary not to believe the transfer is done until Mbappe is holding up the white shirt, after the U-turn in 2022.
