France registered their biggest ever win in an international fixture after their 14-0 demolition of Gibraltar. Kylian Mbappe achieved a hat-trick of both goals and assists, while the country’s top goalscorer, Olivier Giroud, extended his tally with a brace after coming off the bench.
The pair were joined by Kingsley Coman, Youssouf Fofana, Adrien Rabiot, Ousmane Dembele, Jonathan Klauss, Warren Zaïre-Emery and Marcus Thuram on the scoreboard. Zaïre-Emery scored on his international debut for France aged only 17, but was forced off with an injury after an early tackle from Ethan Santos, which caused him to be sent off.
France record biggest win in history over Gibraltar
With his hat-trick, Kylian Mbappe has now overtaken Antoine Griezmann as the third highest goalscorer in the history of France. The striker now has 46 goals in 74 games, while Giroud remains in first position with 56 from 128 games. The PSG star also achieved a career milestone of scoring 300 goals across all competitions.
France have already qualified for the Euro 2024 finals in Germany, and had very little to play for heading into the November break. Regardless, they have taken the fixture seriously and are looking to gather as much momentum as possible heading into the tournament.
Zaïre-Emery exits the camp after Eduardo Camavinga’s injury in training, but the abundance of talent across all positions has allowed them to cope with the injuries really well.
