Foxconn and the Taiwanese government are discussing a partnership that would allow the world’s largest contract electronics manufacturer to rapidly upgrade Indians’ skills to meet the needs of the semiconductor industry.

The plan is to use Taiwan Education Centres (TEC) across India to train local technology professionals with Foxconn’s proprietary technical material and Mandarin language provided by the TECs. This combination of technical and linguistic abilities would aid in bridging the gap between Indian and Taiwanese companies and talent.

On that note, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Wednesday that India’s Karnataka state is in serious talks with Taiwan’s Foxconn about investment plans, potentially making it the country’s third state to host Foxconn.

The state’s investment promotion arm also tweeted that representatives met at the company’s Taiwan headquarters to discuss the investment, but no further details were provided.

Foxconn, based in Taiwan, already has operations in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu, where it manufactures products for companies like Apple Inc. and Amazon.com Inc.
