Barcelona are currently in one of the most tumultuous periods in their history. While performances on the pitch might have found an upward trend following the appointment of Ronald Koeman, things do not seem to be going well behind the scenes at Camp Nou.

The Blaugrana are well documented to have some financial difficulties at the moment. Their methods of dealing with the absence of revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic include reducing the salaries of players. And that is what the spotlight is on right now.

Here's why Frenkie de Jong had his hand bandaged in the match against Napoli

The Spanish media revealed that Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, Sergino Dest, Miralem Pjanic and Frenkie De Jong opted against signing fax to the board, protesting against their proposal of another pay cut over the one that the players currently take.

The German shot-stopper has been negotiating a deal with the board, which is expected to be announced when Ter-Stegen is fit. On the other hand, Pjanic, Dest and De Jong are still new to the club and it makes sense for them to want to be on good terms with the board.

Manuel Neuer feels pity for his German teammate Ter Stegen

The four captains of Barcelona – Messi, Pique, Busquets and Sergi Roberto have all signed the fax that is against the board’s proposal of wanting the players to take another pay cut.

After such unrest in the locker room, it seems like Barcelona are put in another tight spot where they must choose between a financial crisis and some of their best players.

There have been reports claiming that Barcelona players could terminate their contract next season if their wage demands are not met.

With Lionel Messi also heavily linked with a move to Manchester City in the upcoming transfer windows, Barcelona need to think long and hard before taking any decisions on the matter to come up with a constructive solution.

Barcelona president Bartomeu is expected to be out of a job soon, following the absolute meltdown that the fans had following the 8-2 humiliation against Bayern.

Bartomeu’s mismanagement is one of the main reasons for the Catalonian club’s current plight. Fans can only hope that things get better following the removal of their current President.
