Fortnite Ballistic: 5v5 Tactical First-Person Competitive Mode Launching December 11 with New Features and Gadgets
Similar to Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, players in Fortnite Ballistic are divided between assaulters and also protectors. Players can choose a Flex Gadget from one of five available options before the match starts. The attackers need to plant a Rift Point Device and defend it at one of two areas on the map. A round concludes when either the Rift Point Device explodes or one team gets eliminated. Teams exchange sides after six rounds, and the session ends when one side takes seven rounds.
Each round, players can buy their desired gadget and carry two Flex Gadgets in their inventory. You cannot then share the gadgets with teammates and no one else will be able to pick them up. When used well, these gadgets can sway the tide of a round. And snippets of them here: laying traps with Proximity Mine, like a support class friend with Bubble Shield, scouting ahead with the Recon Grenade, and dislodging foes from cover with Frag or Impulse Grenades.
The players will have the option of Unranked as well as Ranked matches. Unranked is a more relaxed game mode, providing backfill for quitters mid-match. Ranked play, though, is reserved for a competitive challenge. When teams win, they increase rank; when teams lose, they decrease rank. They are now being monitored in ranked matches, where they will not backfill and players who leave will receive a rank penalty and be prevented from queueing for X amount of time. Ranked matchmaking uses the average rank of the party.
