Drive to Survive is a fly-on-the-wall documentary that shows us behind-the-scenes action of the whole Formula One season. It has also seemed to give a shock to many peoples and would also give an inside view to the fans of Max Verstappen’s Abu Dhabi GP win title showdown with Lewis Hamilton, who went down to the wire.

In the 2021 season, the winner takes all clash between Verstappen and Hamilton in Abu Dhabi, ended in controversial circumstances.

The director of Race named Michael Masi has controversially removed the safety car and the lapped cars between Verstappen and Hamilton on the final lap, creating a straight showdown between the title contenders, who were level on points.

Drive to Survive- Release Date

Netflix’s new series named Drive to Survive is going to release just a week before the start of the 2022 Formula One Season which was going to release on 20th March 2022.

The series Drive to Survive is going to release on 11th March 2022. It has promised that the fans will definitely watch the entire Netflix series in one sitting.

Reactions of Fan

One fan of Formula One has tweeted: ‘This will be fire last season was saucy’ while another posted: ‘I’m ready but really not ready at the same time.’

One F1 supporter further added: ‘I’ve just booked the day off and plan to sit on the sofa all day. #DriveToSurvive’

Another fan has tweeted: ‘If anyone needs me, I will be unreachable on March 11th due to… reasons…’

Formula One can not hide their excitement after Netflix has made the announcement about the news on Wednesday.

F1 has also described the release date that it was the date every fan is waiting and excited for. The fans stated, ‘the hype we’ve been waiting for.’

Jordan Bianchi, writing for The Athletic, was one of those who criticized Masi’s decision.

He wrote: ‘Masi’s flimsy justification to (Toto) Wolff (Mercedes-Benz’s team principle) along with his refusal to speak to the media afterward only further undermines any confidence that Masi is capable of effectively officiating a race.

He might as well just have said: “because I said so.” Or that he wanted to make sure Netflix gets another juicy storyline for the next season of Drive to Survive.

‘All this does is diminish what Verstappen accomplished. And what the Dutchman did should not be diminished.’

Others also made claims, including Hong-Kong based journalist Paul Ryding, who wrote on Twitter: ‘The irony is, F1 probably think the “thrilling finale” they manufactured on the fly for the next season of Drive to Survive would secure more converts.

‘In reality, the season has been gripping enough and the contrived ending will have turned a lot of people off the sport.’

He wrote: ‘Terrible result for Lewis (Hamilton) but a great result for F1. Championship decided on the final race, everyone arguing about the rules online and a dramatic ending for the next season of Drive to Survive. Better to be a controversial sport than a boring one.’

Tim Shipman, Chief Political Commentator for the Sunday Times, also got involved in the debate. He wrote on Twitter: ‘That’s going to court. The rules would have let all the lapped cars through which meant no more racing.

‘They chose to engineer a finale to Drive to Survive instead. I support Verstappen most of the year. But Lewis deserved that.’
