Recently, Barcelona has fired Quique Setien and a lot of people to start a ‘new project’ after the humiliating loss against Bayern Munich. The Cantabrian was replaced by the former Barca legend Ronald Koeman who is appointed by Bartomeu to restructure the team and get back the winning days at Camp Nou and also finally achieve their lost Champions League crown.
Already, the club has appointed the Dutch Alfred Schreuder as the assistant coach and now they’ve brought their former Swedish striker Henrik Larsson to join Koeman’s backroom team. He has returned to the club almost after 13 years, now, appointed as an assistant coach to the new boss Ronald Koeman.
The former Barca striker has now signed a two-year deal to be a part of Koeman’s coaching staff. Both have collaborated earlier as well, at Eredivisie side Feyenoord between 1995 and 1997 during the Dutchman’s end of the career, however, both have the experience in a Barca shirt and knows how important it is to win games.
The 48-year-old has been out of football for a year or so having left his managerial post at Swedish side Helsingborgs because of social media abuse. Larsson, as a player, joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Celtic in June 2004 and went on to win two La Liga titles and he shared the Champions League trophy with Ronaldinho, scoring 22 goals in 62 games.
It will be interesting to see how along with the Dutchman Alfred Schreuder and Henrik Larsson, Koeman changes the team and the tactics to revive the team. Also, in this financial crisis, this will be a challenge for Koeman and his coaching staff to rebuild this group and make new signings as well.
