Flipkart : Tier 2+ Markets Drive Significant Expansion
Growth in Tier 2 and beyond markets has been significant, with the customer base expanding by nearly 25 times year-on-year. Cities like Ambala, Barabanki, Bhagalpur, Durgapur, Kanpur, Roorkee, Siliguri, Salem, and Tiruppur have shown substantial uptake. Consumer demand in these regions extends beyond daily necessities to include products such as Korean noodles, sauces, ready-to-eat meals, and premium skincare items, highlighting an evolving consumption pattern.

Gen Z Adoption Broadens Product Range
The platform has also observed a significant increase in Gen Z adoption, with this demographic’s customer base growing nearly fivefold year-on-year. Gen Z consumers are responsible for over 45% of orders across various categories including beauty, electronics, gaming, wearables, fragrance, health, nutrition, and grooming. They also account for one in three gourmet orders, indicating a broader utilization of quick commerce services beyond traditional essentials.

Gupta noted that Flipkart Minutes has transitioned from a convenience service to a comprehensive shopping channel, with consumers increasingly purchasing items beyond daily essentials. He highlighted the rapid spread of this purchasing behavior into smaller cities and the emergence of new categories driven by Gen Z users. Gupta added that the expanding network provides an opportunity to reach more consumers while creating new avenues for brands, farmers, and local businesses.
Evolving Consumer Basket and Sustainability Efforts
Beyond staple groceries, premium and specialized product categories have demonstrated substantial growth. Gourmet and specialty grocery items, introduced within the last year, have seen an eightfold increase in demand, including cold-pressed oils, imported cheeses, international avocado varieties, and Korean ready-to-eat meals. Men’s grooming products have grown nearly sixfold year-on-year, and pet food fivefold. The platform also recorded its largest single order to date, valued at ₹6 lakh, which comprised five smartphones, indicating a diversification of purchases beyond immediate essentials.
Since its launch, Flipkart Minutes has established a partner ecosystem with nearly 500 direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands, facilitating access to hyperlocal demand. The platform has also collaborated with Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) to connect farmers directly with consumers, aiming to improve market access and price realization. In line with sustainability initiatives, the service is increasing its use of electric vehicles for last-mile deliveries, supported by battery-swapping infrastructure at its micro fulfillment centers. Additionally, it has adopted lighter, compostable, and biodegradable packaging for fruits and vegetables to reduce virgin plastic consumption.
