Raphael Veiga arrived late into the box in the fifth minute, and was at the end of a low cross from the right flank. The player blasted the ball into the bottom corner to open the scoring, and brought the game to life in the process.

A number of chances followed for both teams thereafter. Palmeiras nearly had another early in the second half, but Diego Alves made an acrobatic save to deny Rony’s effort from finding the top bin.

Flamengo would eventually have their equaliser in the 72nd minute, after Gabigol slotted the ball into the net. The keeper was beaten at his near post by the striker, who was closing down on the left wing after being played in.

They would have the chance to score the winner shortly after, but despite Michael finding himself in space. But, his effort went wide and would prove to be a vital miss in the big game.

Andreas Pereira fell with the ball at his feet, with little pressure on him. Deyverson was there to capitalise on the error, and despite not hitting the ball clean, managed to do enough to put the ball into the back of the net to lift the Copa Libertadores trophy again.
